Understanding the difference between vision and medical insurance doesn’t have to be complicated. Here’s how they typically work:
Vision Insurance Vision insurance often covers:● Routine eye exams ● Prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses ● Refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia, and astigmatism Medical Insurance Medical insurance is billed when your visit involves diagnosing or treating medical conditions , such as:● Eye injuries (scratches, foreign objects, retinal detachment, etc.)● Eye infections● Diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, or macular degeneration If you have questions about which type of insurance your exam qualifies for, we will do our best to answer them before your appointment. In some cases, it may not be clear if the visit is eligible for medical or vision plan coverage until after your exam. At that point, we will handle the billing accordingly.
